Scallop Shell Heart from Tatting Chic

Last, but certainly not least, I received this lovely heart from Tatting Chic. It is Scallop Shell Heart from Martha Ess. The thread is Pizzazz from Yarnplayer. And, she used one of my thread winders while tatting it!

This is the card that came with the heart.

It is one of those cute pop-out cards. Even the little Get Well Soon card at the top opens to reveal a sweet message from Tatting Chic. You are a very sweet, special friend Tatting Chic. Thank you for the lovely gift and for all of your prayers.

Celtic Teapot by Martha Ess

Martha's book, "Tea is for Tatting", is wonderful! I had so much fun tatting this Celtic Teapot. I learned new things and hope I got them right. I think there are a couple of places that could have been smoother, but I'm pleased with it. I'm not altogether pleased with my color choices, but I think it will work in my bedroom with all of the Rhubarb Pie. The light pink and green are Flora size 20. The darker rose, almost red, is a hand dyed solid from Marilee's Rhubarb Pie.

If you haven't ordered the book, I hope that you will have the opportunity to.

Mystery Doily half way through stage one!

Half way through stage one of the mystery doily! I really, really like it but the fingers of my left hand sure are stiff and sore. I think it will look really nice after it is finished and blocked.

This is how much thread I had left from a 50 yard skein of size 20 in Rhubarb Crisp hand dyed thread by Yarnplayer. One tiny piece, one a little longer and one about 1 1/4 yards. I have four more motifs to tat so I'm hoping to finish this stage of the doily with only 2 skeins used. The second part of the doily is still a mystery to everyone except Steph, unless some of you just aren't saying!

1st motif of mystery doily

This is my new project. I needed something to keep my mind occupied and I found it! It's not my design and some of you may recognize it. Thought we might make a little guessing game out of it.

It tatted up real fast but hasn't been blocked yet. I'd like to wait until they are joined to do that, so no judgement on how even or uneven it is.

This is my favorite thread from Yarnplayer, as most of you know. Rhubarb Pie in size 20.

Eternal Rose Cross #2

I found this size 10 in orange and it makes a huge difference. Orange happens to be the favorite color of a friend. Guess what she is getting for her birthday?

I really need to order some variegated size 10. I think the roses would be much prettier and real looking.

Thanks again Yarnplayer for the lovely pattern.

Eternal Rose Cross by Yarnplayer

This is a simple, lovely pattern and a joy to tat. Thank you so much Yarnplayer for sharing it with us. I didn't have any pretty size 10 thread. The pink is a size 3 cotton and too big, but I still think it is pretty. The white is size 20 Flora. If I can get some nice size 10 for the roses, I'm thinking these would make great gifts.

Lovely card and gifts from Clyde

Clyde sent me this beautiful Hawaiian Christmas card which arrived today. It is very intricately cut in white with a brown paper behind it. So pretty I think I will have to frame it. The thread is Marilee's hand dyed red from Tourmaline in size 80. The Celtic snowflake is tatted in size 50 Apple Blossom. The little copper darts are for marking pages. I have never seen them before, but they will be put to good use.

Thank you so much Clyde for your very thoughtful, and generous, gift to me. Happy New Year!

Spinning Wheel Glass Mat in Fern

I just finished this last night. I think/hope this is my last mat. No, I'm not trying to catch up with Diane!

I tatted it in size 20 hand dyed thread called "Fern" by Yarnplayer and I think it turned out beautifully.

Tomorrow it will be off in the mail!

Ruth's Celtic Snowflake in Rhubarb Pie

You had to know I would get around to tatting this snowflake in Rhubarb Pie! It is hanging in one of my Bayberry bushes. Now my hands smell like Bayberry! Thanks again, Ruth for sharing this pattern with us. Of course, Yarnplayer knows how much I love her hand dyed Rhubarb Pie.

Spinning Wheel Glass Mat #3

This one is tatted in Yarnplayer's hand dyed thread "Roses" in size 80. It is a HUGE 3" LOL. Probably my last tatting in size 80 for a while, especially with dark colors. My eyes are giving me lots of trouble and I need to have laser surgery. No biggy, just needs to be done.

Thread Winders to date

The big picture is the cummulative effort and the daisies are the lastest of my artwork. The few I have kept for myself, I really enjoy tatting with them as my ball thread. I didn't think I liked the snowflakes until I wound a skein of Marilee's hand dyed thread on it and now it looks beautiful!

A good number of these are spoken for. I will get a picture of what is left if anyone is interested in them.

Two Glass Mats Together

Your every wish is my command, Miss Shuttle Maker! Here are the two together. I think they are both pretty. I like the regular change like Clyde. I also like the size 80 thread because it is so dainty.

There are so many beautiful hand dyed threads now that I have a struggle deciding with which one I want to tat next!

Spinning Wheel #2

Spinning Wheel #2 is still in
Yarnplayer's Rhubarb Pie, but size 20 instead of the size 80 I used for the last one. The one in size 80 was slow color change. This one is regular.

In size 20 it measures 5". Thanks again to Mary Konoir for her wonderful pattern!

Spinning Wheel Glass Mat

Diane has inspired me to tat Spinning Wheel Glass Mat from Tatting With Visual Patterns by Mary Konoir. You all know Marilee's Rhubarb Crisp/Pie is my first and probably favorite hand dyed thread. This one is size 80 in slow color change. It is the first time I have tatted with slow color change. I had been saving it for just the right pattern and I must say, I think this is it!

I started with the spoke that has red chains and rings fading into pink rings and chains. I am really pleased with how the colors turned out and the definition they provide to this design.

Now I know why Diane has tatted this design so many time. It was simple, easy to memorize, quick and kept me anxious to see how the HDT was going to turn out.

It is 3 1/4" and I used 13.5 yards on the shuttle. I've still got to measure what is left on my ball thread.

By the way, God save the man, woman or child who puts a glass on this mat!

Green Leaf Dragon

Despite Dragon Lore which says that Green Leaf Dragons are seldom spotted in the summertime, I have captured this one and I'm not letting it go!

I tatted this dragon using Yarnplayer's Fern hand dyed thread in size 20. He was a bit troublesome as he knew he wasn't supposed to be out this time of year. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! He really was not trouble and I enjoyed tatting him, except I kept getting backwards in the wings for some reason. In any case, it is sorted out. I don't think mine looks as good as the others I've seen. Guess I'll have to try again.

The dragon pattern is by anne Bruvold and she was kind enough to share it with us
here.

Thank you Anne!

Jon's bookmark in Rhubarb Pie size 80

I love this bookmark of Jon's, especially in Yarnplayer's size 80 Rhubarb Pie. This was a breeze to tat and I think it looks very rich and elegant. Your design is so nice Jon and I appreciate so much you sharing it with us!

As promised, I have kept up with the thread requirement. I used a total of 19 1/2 yards plus 4 yards for the tassle.

Row 1: 2 yards on shuttle and 2 for ball thread for EACH side of the bookmark. On mine that is the light pink and medium pink which are entwined. (8 yards)

Row 2: 4 yards on shuttle and 2 1/2 for ball thread. (6 1/2 yards)

Row 3: 1 yard on shuttle and 4 for ball thread. (5 yards)

I had loaded 5 yards on the shuttle so I used the 4 left over to do the tassle.

I hopes this helps anyone wanting to tat this bookmark. Remember this is with size 80 thread.

Have fun!

Floral Snowflake in Winter Blend HDT

I am posting this not knowing who the designer is. A friend shared it with me and we are hoping someone will recognize it so we can give them credit. I would also like to pay for the pattern if necessary. She said it was originally in German text. Please help if you can.

I tatted this in Yarnplayer's Winter Blend hand dyed thread, size 80. It is 1 3/4" in diameter and so delicate and lacey. I love the 3d look with the picoted chains.

I know it may not be a traditional looking snowflake, but it is going on my rainbow snowflake tree!

Spun Sugar Doily Finished!

DRUM ROLL PLEASE!!!!

Presenting - Clyde The Mad Tatter's doily pattern - Ray Of Hope
Hand Dyed Thread in Rhubarb Pie by Yarnplayer
My tatting and color arrangement

Here it is!

This doily was an absolute joy to tat! If you go over it with a magnifying glass, especially the last round, I promise you will find some faults. You will not however find any fault with Clyde's pattern. It was a breeze start to finish.

I had been saving this thread for some time looking for just the right pattern. I think I found it. Clyde was so generous to let me test tat this for him. I hope he will be proud of it - I am!

I will sit down and add up how much thread I used as soon as I can. It is only 9" in diameter in size 80 thread.

Snowflake HDT Rose & DMC

I broke a thread on my doily and can't see to fix it tonight so I thought I would finish tatting this snowflake. I started this snowflake so many weeks ago that I can't find the pattern I was using or remember who the designer is! Senior Moment? Nah, just too much stuff right?

It's size 20 hand dyed thread by Yarnplayer named Rose. The yellow is DMC Cebelia. After working with the size 80 HDT this is SO BIG!

Tomorrow morning will be back to tatting the doily. I'm almost halfway around the last row.

Spun Sugar Doily through row 10

Two more rows done, still having fun! The official measurement through this row is a whopping 6". Only 4 more rows to tat and then it will be done. I'm enjoying it so much, I will probably have to start over. I'm going to try and add up exactly how much thread is required for the whole doily. I have 4 skeins of Marilee's "Celery" that I think would tat up beautifully with this pattern. By the way, this has not been blocked, just pressed lightly for the scan. More tomorrow, I hope!
