1st motif of mystery doily

This is my new project. I needed something to keep my mind occupied and I found it! It's not my design and some of you may recognize it. Thought we might make a little guessing game out of it.

It tatted up real fast but hasn't been blocked yet. I'd like to wait until they are joined to do that, so no judgement on how even or uneven it is.

This is my favorite thread from Yarnplayer, as most of you know. Rhubarb Pie in size 20.

New Iris Neibach Books!

These are my three beautiful, new Iris Neibach books! They can be found here.Lacis Online Catalog

I don't know which one to dive into first. After I finish tatting Beatrice, of course. I can tell you the brand new "Just For Fun" is very exciting if you haven't seen it. There seems to be quite a Iris Fan Club growing. You can definitely add me in there! Her work is amazing. I hope I can do justice to some of the designs.

Thank you for being you Iris!

They've Been Framed!

This is a big deal as I sometimes never get around to framing important things - more important than this!

I think they will look even prettier when I get the walls painted a soft green.

I am pleased with my Rhubarb Pie/Crisp doilies and cross. Tatting them was very pleasant and now looking at them will please me for many years.

New Doily

I thought I would be ready to post the first picture of the new doily I am tatting by tonight, but I'm not quite there. I am trying to be so careful not to make a mistake with my precious thread! I am supposed to be knitting baby caps for the hospital, but I am being selfish and tatting instead. Shame on me! Actually, the thread with which I was knitting is so stiff and rough it wouldn't be fit for a baby. I don't know where I am going to find patriotic red and blue baby thread. White is no problem, of course. If any of you know where I can find this, please let me know. In the meantime, I guess I will be forced to go on tatting!

Mama's Crochet

Remember when I made Jon's rose doily and I said it reminded me of my grandmother's crochet? Well, I finally found a piece of it to show you and compare. It is very old and I was afraid to wash and press it, so just take it as you see it.

I put it next to Jon's doily and I am very pleased with the comparison. Both of my grandmothers tatted, but it was the normal tatting for their time - edgings and inserts. I know my dad's mom made one tatted doily, but I can't find it. I wish they could both see how much tatting has changed and how many wonderful colors and textures of thread there are now. What fun they would have!

Jon's Rosette Doily tatted by me!

I told all of you to expect something special! Jon was so good to share this tatting pattern with me. When she posted the picture of hers, I told her it reminded me of the crocheted doilies my grandmother used to make. I was so pleased when she sent me the pattern so I could tat it. I plan to make some pictures of my grandmother's doilies and post them so that you can see my inspiration. In the meantime, I just couldn't wait to share this with you. It is "hot" off of the ironing board!

I tatted it with Flora size 20. It is such a joy with which to tat and needs almost no blocking. No starching for this thread!

The shuttle is, of course, my first from LadyShuttlemaker and I love it! I didn't get to tat the whole doily with it because it only arrived last Friday and I already had all of the rosettes done. It did a great job on the green though. It is such fun to use and makes a lovely sound as you wind and unwind the thread. I will use and treasure it always!
