Stiffened Snowflakes

This is one of the reasons I have been so quiet. I finally gave in and started stiffening snowflakes. This is the first time I have done this to any of my tatting. I had great misgivings until I got started, but now I like it a lot. I'm going to try and get them all done before I put any of them back on the tree. Poor little tree looks so sad! I am using "Stiffy" from Michael's and a piece of 3/4" styrofoam covered in plastic. I did the first ten last night and didn't wear gloves. My hands are sooo dry. Today I wore gloves!

I can't wait to finish them and get the tree decorated again. I'm not going to tell how many more I have to go!

WOW! That's a LOT of stiffening! They look fabulous! I was wondering why this didn't show up on my dashboard a while ago...then I looked and my google reader said this was published "1 minute ago."! LOL! That must be the reason why! I guess I'll get to be the first to say that your stiffened snowflake are BEAUTIFUL! :)

Looking good, Laura! I have to get off my lazy butt and start starching, too. Whenever I use Stiffy, I dilute it 50/50 because it turns things to bricks! The snowflakes I crocheted ten years ago are still as hard as the day I starched them.

Laura, that is a wonderful way of showing the snowflakes...I really enjoyed enlarging the photos and looking at each one. Please show us all of them as they get done.

Oh Laura, what a great collection of snowflakes. Your tree is going to look tremendously beautiful.

Are you dipping the snowflakes in the 'Stiffy'? Couldn't you brush the stiffener on the snowflakes? That was how I did to stiffen some of my tatting.

Wow, they are so colourful, can't wait to see all of them hang up on the tree. Make sure the children know they are not looking at special candies! Sure look yummy to me!

Hi Laura, I find that the snowflakes look better on the tree when they have been stiffened. What a collection you have. So many designs and colours I can't wait to see your tree it is going to be an absolute tatting and HDT knockout.

Stiffening takes the shine off the thread...well it does for me but it it makes the colours so much more intense and they look so good on the tree...that I always stiffen mine.

Wow! Wow! They look absolutely beautiful! Your tree must look gorgeous with all of them on it. I'll be checking back to see the rest of them - and a picture of the tree with them back on I hope!

Thank you Tattingchic. I am really enjoying this process and I didn't expect to. Yes, you are first!
Thanks Steph. Yes, you better get to starching. It's almost here! I hope mine will stay nice for a long time.
Thank you Lady Shuttle Maker. If only there was a contest for that!
Thank you Snowy. I am glad you like them. I will post all of them as I get them done.
Thank you Jon and thanks for the suggestion of using a brush. It works beautifully!
Thank you Bonnie. I'm enjoying them.
Thanks Singtatter. I think I have broken my little grandson from touching the snowflakes. I only put the white ones around the bottom and they are not quite as tempting anyway.
Thank you Diane. I think I will start putting them back on the tree tonight.
Thanks Clyde. I am very proud of them and can't wait to get them all stiffened and back on the tree. I am anxious to get new pictures made of it.
Thank you Jane, Madeline and Carol. I'm glad you like my collection.
Thank you Miss Rhea. I am enjoying the holiday season and hope you are as well.
Thank you Sy and Grizzly Mountain. I am so excited that so many people are interested in my snowflakes.
Thank you Tatskool. It does take away some of the shine, but the color is more intense.
Thank you Tattrldy. I will keep everyone updated!
