Last few weeks work

 

 

This is what I have been doing for the last few weeks as the weather and my health would allow. I can do the woodburning inside, but have to be outside to spray on the sealer and do the sanding.

I have several more shapes ready to be sanded and burned or painted. Maybe even something Christmasy!

One of my special friends and I have worked out a barter for thread winders and some of her tatting. She likes what she calls the "beau-tree-flies" and the flower with the vines. Can't find anymore butterflies right now, but I have other things I think all of you will like.

Also, while searching for something entirely different on Wednesday, I found the photos from my woodcarving period. There are pictures of my dad and I at at a show and more of our work. Would you like for me to scan them in and post them? You won't believe it's me!

Well, she had me to the very end. I would never have guessed. Maybe we need a series of tatted commemorative light houses! Humm.......

Ferris Wheel Snowflake in HDT

 

I just had to stop with bigger projects and make at least one snowflake. It's getting to be that time of year already. This is
Lady Shuttle Maker's hand dyed thread. I have lost the tag and can't remember exactly the name. I'll find out from her as soon as I can. I think it is either Citrus or Lemon/Lime. It is size 20 and I used two shuttles. One would do since it was all one color, but I like to work with two. I loaded 7 yards on shuttle 1 and ended up using 4 yards of it. I eventually used 16 yards on shuttle 2!

This is my pattern that can be found under patterns in the label section on my blog. I did not have to use the "shoelace tricks" since it was 2 shuttles with the same color on both. Please feel free to use the pattern and please send me pictures if you do!

I know my colored snowflakes may look odd to some of you, but they really look stunning on my white Christmas tree! I now have some of Pamela's Rainbow Bright thread. Maybe after a doily I will have enough left to tat a rainbow snowflake from that thread.

Starlight Doily in Pamela's Coral Reef HDT

 

Rounds 1 through 4 finished. Only two more to go, which is a shame as I am enjoying this thread and pattern very much.
Pamela's thread is a lovely addition to our hand dyed thread community. Hopefully, I will have enough thread left to make some snowflakes for the rainbow tree!

Surprise from Diane!

 

 

 

What a wonderful surprise the letter carrier brought to me. DH brought in the mail and handed me a big envelope with that "what did you buy now?" look. I knew, or didn't think, that I had bought anything. Then I saw the return address. It was from my good friend, adopted sister, Diane. She shared some of her custom thread from Lady Shuttle Maker with me. Totally unexpected, and very generous. I can't wait to try them. On the left is silk Crepe Myrtle in size 20 and 80, then Summer Bouquet, Faded Summer and Terra Cotta all in size 20. The floss winder is a sample of the new Lizbeth thread from Handy Hands in Size 20 color #634.

As you can see, there is a picture of one of the new thread winders with a whole 50 yard skein of HDT in Summer Bouquet on it. Whoopee! I was afraid I would have to deepen the grooves between the petals, but it held it nicely. I haven't tried the butterfly yet.

Do keep watching for "decorated" winders. I have lots of ideas and sketches!

Sherry's T.I.A.S. round 1!

I love tatting these T.I.A.S's! It is so much fun to try and figure out what is coming next. I have no idea what this will be, but given Sherry's imagination, artistic ability and tatting knowledge, it should be fun and rewarding.

I hope all of you will try Jane's method of block tatting if you haven't already. It is so much easier!

Thread Holders from Michael's

 

Well, I'm "shooting myself in the foot" here, but I have to share these. I went into Michael's to see if they had any strips of wood from which I could cut four leaf clover thread holders. I found these, and assorted other shapes, for only 25 cents each! Yes, you heard right - 25 cents each. I bought 8 of them. They had some that were painted, but I wouldn't trust the paint not to come off on the thread. I might decorate mine and then seal them. We'll see. Oh, the butterfly is 3.5" and the flower is 3".

If you don't have a Michael's and want them, let me know and maybe I can get them and send them to you. I don't get out often, but I could have them picked up.

Coral Reef doily preview

I finally got to sit down with
Pamela's coral reef thread and start this doily. It is Starlight Doily from the Tatter's Treasure Chest. This is rounds 1 through 3. I love this thread! It really does remind me of a coral reef. Oh, size 20 and it's very nice to tat with this thread.

Floss winders

Look what I found! I actually got to it through the "Stitch Pink" link on my sidebar. Kelmscott Designs has two breast cancer items that you have to buy from retail shops. That's how I got to the 123 Stitch site.

Dragon #2 "Spring"

Ann Bruwold's dragon again, this time tatted in green Flora size 20 with size 11 pink, glass beads. This maybe a little "girlie" for a dragon, but I want her for my room. I think she will have her own little frame.

I tried to think of a particularly clever name for her as she was inspired by a favorite outfit from my senior year of high school. I had an a-line skirt and sleeveless blouse made from green and pink material that was a kind of plaid I guess. The background was green with tiny pink stripes in both directions, to the best of my memory. I loved that outfit. It also had a canvas belt that was cream colored. My mother and grandmother made most of my clothes, but this one was "store bought" and very special. I don't know where Mother found the money to buy it, but I loved it and must have worn it out. I don't remember what happened to it. If only we realized how special our memories would be, we might hang onto some of the things at the root of these memories......

Green Leaf Dragon

Despite Dragon Lore which says that Green Leaf Dragons are seldom spotted in the summertime, I have captured this one and I'm not letting it go!

I tatted this dragon using Yarnplayer's Fern hand dyed thread in size 20. He was a bit troublesome as he knew he wasn't supposed to be out this time of year. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! He really was not trouble and I enjoyed tatting him, except I kept getting backwards in the wings for some reason. In any case, it is sorted out. I don't think mine looks as good as the others I've seen. Guess I'll have to try again.

New items from the attic

I have listed several new items from the attic this morning. Check it out!

New Blog!

Please help me clean out my house! I have started a new blog to try and sell some of the things my family has collected over the years. One day we will be ready to move and there is no way I could pack up this house. HELP!

I will price things as reasonably as possible. If there is something that you like but don't like the price, make me an offer. There will be a few things of greater value listed. If I can't get what I want for these items, I will keep them or try to sell them in another venue.

When everything is gone, I will close the blog. That will probably take a while!

There will be some jewelry, statues, glassware, ceramics, David Winter Cottages, most of which are signed by the artist, and other assorted items. There might even be some of my dad's woodwork.

Elizabeth's starfish from my pattern

My friend Elizabeth in Mobile tatted this starfish in Olympus thread and sent me the picture today. She only got the pattern from me yesterday! I think she did a beautiful job, as usual. She graciously allowed me to post the picture here for you to see. It is a good feeling for others to tat something you come up with.
