Stuff I don't have

I have been inspired by TattingChic to plead nothing to tat! Since I can never match her level of sarcasm, which is quite admirable, I will stop with it here!

This is my first thread cabinet full of thread that, like TattingChic, I don't have! It is supposed to be sorted by sizes on the shelves but gets mixed up.

 

More size 10 in the bottom of my jewelry armoire. See my smallest baby trying to help. You haven't seen her before. Her name is Jade. She is "the cat who will never come inside."

 

And yet more size 10.

The Letter Carrier Cometh!

Handy Hands is phenomenal. I have already received my order that I made Wednesday or Thursday. I only got notice that it was shipped yesterday.

I have been wanting these two books for a LONG TIME! I was afraid after reading TattingChic's post that I would end up in the same fix as she is with nothing to tat! I'm not ready to show you pictures of all the things I "don't have", but I will soon. One can never have too many shuttles, so I got two more of these Lacis that I like very much to bring my total up for free shipping and I needed the small crochet hook for my chain around my neck. Yes, needed!

I wish I could order every tatting book available, but we all know that isn't possible. I have to be very careful or we wouldn't be able to live in this house. These books, shuttles and crochet hook are for my birthday next week, so I really haven't seen them yet! LOL

Wooden Shuttles My Dad Made For Me

Since the rest of the doily is secret until I finish this last row and 1/2, I thought I would show you pictures of my shuttles Daddy made for me. The black ones are African Ebony, the red ones are Purple Heart and the others are assorted Maple (I think.) They are not my favorite to use as I prefer the thread on the inside of the shuttle, but they are treasures no less. The metal you see is where he inserted a piece of metal and bent the end to give me a hook but it didn't work very well. I have snipped them off and need to file them down good.

Some of you know my dad was a master craftsman in wood. My home is full to overflowing with treasures he made, including furniture and hand carved pictures. I also have lots of treasures my mother crocheted, knitted, quilted and made in ceramics. I am truly blessed!

Here she is! I've named her Agatha as she was such a mystery. (She also looks kind of startled like she was the one who found the body!) Thanks to Jane for all of the time, effort and imagination that went into this project.

Spun Sugar Doily through row 10

 

Two more rows done, still having fun! The official measurement through this row is a whopping 6". Only 4 more rows to tat and then it will be done. I'm enjoying it so much, I will probably have to start over. I'm going to try and add up exactly how much thread is required for the whole doily. I have 4 skeins of Marilee's "Celery" that I think would tat up beautifully with this pattern. By the way, this has not been blocked, just pressed lightly for the scan. More tomorrow, I hope!

Vintage purses

 

 

I know this has absolutely nothing to do with tatting. Since some of you have been posting your tatted amulet bags, I just had to find something to try and compete!

These two purses came to me through my mother and her mother. Beyond that, I don't know to which ancestor they belonged. But I think they are beautiful. They "live" in my Victorian bedroom with my other antiques, (like me!)

Even though they are metal, they feel very nice and make me want to tat a bag. Guess that needs to be a future project.

How many of you expected to see yellow next? Maybe Yarnplayer did. Tatting this doily is a true joy. The pattern is well written and the HDT is fabulous as usual.

Ray of Hope through row 7

 

I am more in love with this doily with every swish of the shuttle! I hope you can see the different colors in the rows of chains. There are two rows of the lightest, two rows of the middle, one row of light rose/red, and one row of the darkest rose/red. Humm, what now?

I think I am going to have to name my color version of this doily, with Clyde's permission of course, "Candy Land."

Clyde's Ray of Hope Doily

 

I am test tatting this doily for Clyde and he has given me permission to post progress pictures. Hopefully this design will be in a book in the near future!

As you know, Yarnplayer's Rhubarb Crisp/Rhubarb Pie is one of my all time favorite hand dyed threads. This is my second doily in this color, plus several snowflakes for my Rainbow Christmas Tree and a cross motif.

To be different, instead of my normal size 20 thread I am using size 80. The center motif is the Rhubarb Pie variegated. The next two rows are in the lightest pink in the "set." It measures 3" so far.

Paisley number 1

 

Here is my first paisley from Mark aka Tatman's pattern that he so generously offered. As soon as I figure out where I got the pattern, I'll let you know! I'm having lots of "Senior" moments lately. It is tatted in DMC Perle Cotton size 5 and is about 3" long. Thanks Mark!

E Tatters Pattern Library

I know I am way behind, but I just found the pattern library on E Tatters. It is great. I have updated my labels on patterns and pictures and hope to have a linnk to them in E Tatters soon. I think this will be a great way for all of us to have access to our favorite patterns. If you haven't joined, please do!

Trouble Posting Comments

I have been experiencing trouble leaving comments off and on for some time. Now, I notice that more and more of you mention this same problem. I have found a way to get around it most of the time and thought I would share it to see if it will help.
When the letters you are supposed to type aren't there - click on the handicapped button and a little square with a dot in it will pop up under where the letters go. If you click back into the letter box it should give you a drop down of combined letters. Choose one and type it in. It will then tell you that is wrong and give you the right letters to type. Does that make sense? I hope so. Let me know if it works for you.

Dumbledore's Phoenix

Well, I looked up some pictures of Dumbledore's Phoenix and I really hadn't remembered it well at all! It's all red/orange/firey with a wicked looking beak and wild eyes. Not at all like my little orange, purple, pink bird with a green eye! Too funny! Maybe I'll try again. It was fun to make and I love using my HDT.

Jon's 1st book

I received my book from Jon and I am so happy and excited about it! I enjoyed helping a little bit with test tatting and motivation and appreciate so much her thank you in the book. That's the first time I've ever been mentioned in a book before!

I hope those of you who haven't ordered will check it out. The patterns are very clear and easily understood and the book is well done.
