A Query

O.k. I will soon be ready to start tatting bags and dragons. If you experts, otherwise known as "mass consumers of beads", would please tell me where you get your beads I would be most appreciative. There are lots of them in hanks on ebay but I want good, uniform beads if I am going to put this much work into my tatting.

Thanks in advance1

  1. Well I get them from stores in singapore >< so that won't help you much.

But in general the 'made in japan' beads are a good bet here.

  2. Quality beads are my next quest. Next time I make it to Seoul this is what I will look for...I remember seeing BIG bags of beads but didn't have a chance to investigate further.

  3. Hi, Laura! If this comment goes through, it'll be on my third try today!

I have ordered very nice beads from eebeads and Fire Mountain Gems. I learned about both places from my daughter Joanne when she was making jewelry. In fact, now that I've cleaned my sewing room, I know that I have an abundance of beads! I guess I should try making some amulet bags too!

  4. Thanks Wickedtats. I'll check out made in Japan beads.
Lady Shuttle Maker, I hope you feel much better soon and you can check out those beads in Seoul.
Thanks Diane. I'll check those sources. I have found some on ebay and the guy has a perfect feedback score. Haven't ordered yet.

  5. The Delicas are very uniform with large holes. But I like the Czech beads, too. Anything by Swarovski is absolutely glorious - faceted crystals or the glass pearls, all yummy! For the most part, I've noticed that beads from bead shops tend to be of better quality than the beads in all-purpose craft stores, but there are exceptions. Have fun, Laura! Beads are addictive...as if you needed another addiction besides HDT...LOL

  6. Thanks Yarnplayer. You are right. One more addiction is all I need! I love beads but they will never replace my #1 addiction for HDT! The Delica beads sound wonderful. When I finish this little bag, I will see if I like it enough to buy beads for more. I should be finished tomorrow. One day I will make something that needs crystal beads then I will know what to buy!
